Second Meeting of Friends of Erskineville
Committee Meeting opens at 7.30pm Present: Paul Howard Brett Mason Madeleine Anderson Alastair Moir Zio Ledeux Julie Moffat Gretchen Miller Amalina Wallace Tim Hiley Apologies: Judy Law Roger Fitzhardinge Thomasine Maye Catherine Spooner Hal Alexander Penny Hardy Brett Mason opens meeting and begins by taking nominations for a Traffic Sub-committee. Liaison with the Council in regards to the PCTC planning would continue. It was agreed that the first Traffic meeting would be held at Brett’s house, 16 Charles St on Tuesday 10 August Community Garden Julie Moffat took the lead to discuss issues relating to the Community Garden. Mulch could be obtained from the Angel St garden. There was concern that the Erskineville Road garden was being used at odd hours for ‘rest and recreation’ not otherwise related to the gardens core purpose and possibly the gates padlock should be activated. Julie had made an application to Council 2 years ago for a grant to develop the garden but it had been rejected on the grounds of inadequate sunlight, soil toxicity and security issues. Michael Mobbs has suggested that Simon Leake be approached to write a report that would investigate these issues that could be then submitted to Council to support the ongoing use of the garden. We have support from Councillor Chris Harris for the continued use of land. The 1st Sunday of every month is the day when people get together at the garden. Other business Paul Howard raised the matter of what local issues should be the concern of FOE. For example the Barangaroo Development, Car Share spaces (council does not receive a fee from companies for providing this service), the impacts of the reopening of the Imperial Hotel and the 35 houses to be resumed in Leamington Avenue for a RailCorp tunneling project. It was agreed that the Leamington Avenue rally on 14th August should be noted on the website and an email sent to encourage residents to join in. Other issues could be noted on the website and residents could decide whether they wanted to take it further. The issue of using the Erskineville Councils notice board was raised. There was much discussion around the Imperial Hotel reopening and what impact that would have on parking and noise issues in the neighbourhood given that the hotel has a 24hr license and the number of patrons is likely to increase dramatically. It was agreed to adopt a wait and see policy. It was agreed that a flyer should be sent out around the area to inform people of the status of FOE and what issues are current, in particular news relating to the community garden. People would be directed to the FOE website for further information and could be prompted by a monthly emailed newsletter to visit the site. A mailing list could be set up for those residents without internet access. The meeting was closed at 8.45pm |
