On Wednesday 15 August, in conjunction with the Alexandria Residents Action Group (ARAG), and the Friends of Harold Park (FHP), Friends of Erskineville (FOE) held a very successful Council Election Lord Mayoral Candidates Forum at Alexandria Town Hall. The following candidates participated:
Clover Moore                        Independent and incumbent Lord Mayor
Linda Scott                          Labor Party
Irene Doutney                      Greens
Dixie Coulton                       Independent and past Deputy Lord Mayor to Lucy Turnbull
Edward Mandla                    Liberal Party
Denis Doherty                      Housing Action Group
Angela Vitkhoulis                 Living Sydney
All candidates were given 10 minutes to address three questions which were supplied prior to the evening. Following those presentations there was a question and answer session from the audience which included representatives from Erskineville, Alexandria, Kings Cross, Glebe, Harold Park, Redfern and Surry Hills. By the end of the evening all candidates had committed to a review of council to investigate either the implementation of Precinct Committees as operate in other parts of the city, or a return to the ward system of council representation.
The entire programme for the evening was videotaped in two parts – the initial presentation by each candidate, and the question and answer session that followed. To view these videos click on the following links:

The election that will take place on Saturday 8 September, 2012 is an extremely important one for Erskineville residents. Given the scale of development planned for the suburb over the coming four years (Ashmore); the ongoing lack of public transport infrastructure; the threat to community assets and the traffic and parking issues to name just a few subjects, it is vital that residents give in depth consideration to their vote and who they believe will be the best candidate to look after their interests in the next four years. Hence we trust these videos will assist residents in determining their voting preference.
