Tensions high over Ashmore estate ( Feb 2012)

Public consultation over controversial development plans for the Ashmore Estate will close later this month.

Friends of Erskineville (FOE) president Mike Hatton hoped the results of the consultation would be favourable for residents.

Erskineville resident Mr Hatton said one of FOE’s main gripes with the current plan was that developers, including Leighton and Macquarie Goodman, would erect apartment buildings to a height of nine storeys.

Inner-city fights to save its villages (April 2011)

The NSW Department of Planning has emerged as the biggest threat to Sydney's inner-city villages with its push for massive intensification of site development....
a strategic battle that will shape future development of all the industrial estates on the southern corridor from the city to the airport. Because of a lack of suitable transport infrastructure in the area the council suggested a maximum building height of nine storeys, but the site's owner, Goodman Group, was not happy.
