On Monday 21 September the City Of Sydney approved
the supermarket development in Erskineville.
Councilors who voted to approve the supermarket were:
Clover Moore (who refused to meet with us prior to voting on the DA) and her ‘Independent Political Party’, Councillors John McInerney, Marcelle Hoff, Phillip Black (who refused to meet with us prior to voting on the DA),
Di Tornai, Robert Kok (not available to meet with us prior to voting on the DA) and Liberal, Shayne Mallard (who refused to meet with us prior to voting on the DA).
We were supported by Greens Councilors Chris Harris and Irene Doutney, and Labor Councilor Meredith Burgmann.
Council ignored our many requests for an independent Economic Impact Statement. Despite the undisputed overwhelming community opposition (noted by the Lord Mayor and ALL Councillors) it is very disappointing to have experienced such a lack of community concern from the Lord Mayor and her ‘Independent Political Party’. The Lord Mayor said she thought we should get used to the idea of a supermarket in Erskineville.
We thank you for your ongoing support, and ask you to continue supporting Erskineville local businesses. The City of Villages is dead. It was nothing more than a marketing concept and has no validity or relevance.
